Web Hosting - Data Driven Applications

Database Support - Microsoft SQL Server

SQL Server is provided for sites which are either very heavily used or contain complex queries, whilst there is a set up fee for SQL Server, there is no extra monthly cost.

Each of our web sites can also include a Microsoft SQL Server database running on one of our dedicated SQL Server machines. If your web application demands volume, complex queries at high speed or tight security then you should add SQL Server to your specification.

Major businesses around the world now rely on SQL Server, the enterprise standard RDBMS that is both easy to administer and easy to program against from Active Server Pages and ADO (ActiveX Data Objects). We are professional web application developers - we use this technology and so can you.

To set up a SQL Server database we charge a one-off fee of £100.00. The rental of a SQL Server database is included in the cost of your Hosting Service. Obviously, you need a web site hosted by us first.

Standard set up for SQL Server includes 20Mb storage for your database and 10Mb storage for SQL Server logs.

Extra SQL Server space

If your application contains a large amount of data, or you are using the same database for more than one domain, you may need more than a 20Mb database. You can rent extra space on the SQL Server system.

SQL Server Administration

To create and manage tables within your SQL Server database you can write SQL table creation and administration scripts using Transact SQL to run via Active Server Pages within your web site.

Alternatively, you can connect to your database remotely using Microsoft Visual Interdev's Database Project feature.

Database setup includes a new sub-domain for your domain e.g. sql.mydomain.com enabling you to create a remote DSN from your local workstation.

Database Support - Microsoft Access

Dynamic, data driven, web pages are an important element in your Web Design tool box. Consequently, each web site has support for MS-Access (Jet) database applications. One database is created for you as part of the set-up process. At the same time we create the DSN (Data Source Name) for connection from ASP.

For security reasons the database is located within a special data directory that is not part of your www file structure. Of course - you have ftp access to your data directory for maintenance and support.

You can have as many MS-Access databases as you need.

ODBC Support: - ODBC (Open Database Connectivity) is a Microsoft technology that enables your web pages to connect to a database (on the server). The database is provided by creating a .mdb (Access / Jet) format SQL database file.

We provide a DSN (Data Source Name) for your web site, allowing you to create a link between your Active Server Pages and the database file.

Alternatively you can create DSN-less connections.
